Handcrafted Ceramic Mugs & Cups
Handcrafted ceramic mugs, made in India
Mugs are personal. People form opinions about them: the weight, the handle angle, how the rim feels on your lip, whether it holds a filter coffee without going lukewarm before the second sip. That is why we make them in more shapes and glazes than any other category at Claymistry. And they are all non-toxic ceramic mugs, bone ash free, safe for your daily chai and coffee.
Every mug here is handcrafted from stoneware clay, fired hot up to 1200 C, and finished with a non-toxic, food-safe, cadmium free glaze. Every piece is bone-ash-free. The walls are thick enough to hold heat, and the handles are sized for an actual adult hand rather than the narrow, pinched handles that come on most imported mugs.
A few handcrafted mugs to start with
- The Folklore Mug, Set of 2, 380ml, Rs 599. A tall stoneware mug printed with a blue folk-art pattern, roomy enough for a full coffee.
- The Solitude Mug, Set of 2, 380ml, Rs 599. Tall and slim, with a quieter blue pattern for slow mornings.
- The Black Bean Mug, Set of 2, 400ml, Rs 799. A wide 400ml coffee mug shaped broader than it is tall.
- Sage Mug, Set of 2, 300ml, Rs 599. Soft sage glaze on speckled stoneware, a classic daily size.
- Almond Mug, Set of 4, 300ml, Rs 1,199. Warm almond-yellow mugs in a set of four for the family table.
- Bluebell Brew Mug, Set of 6, 150ml, Rs 999. Chai-sized cups with a blue floral print, a set of six for guests.
What you will find in this collection
- Classic coffee mugs (250 to 350 ml) for daily filter coffee and tea
- Tall latte mugs (400 to 450 ml) for cappuccinos and slow mornings
- Chai cups (150 to 200 ml) for the 4 pm cutting
- Espresso cups and cappuccino sets
- Reactive-glaze mugs, where each piece is one of a kind
- Gift sets of two, four, and six in matching finishes
Everything is microwave and dishwasher safe. The glazes are designed to age well. They do not craze with repeated heating, and they do not stain from coffee or chai even after years of use.
A note on the reactive-glaze mugs: the glaze is mixed and applied by hand, then fired hot enough that the colours pool, pull, and settle differently on every piece. It is why no two Claymistry mugs look identical, and it is the reason this is the category most customers buy first and then come back for. If you want to understand why that variation happens, and why it is not a defect, read our full reactive glaze buyer's guide.
If you are buying as a present, the ceramic gifting guide covers what works for weddings, housewarmings, and Diwali. Building a cafe or hotel programme and need consistent mugs in volume? See corporate and bulk gifting, or email us directly at pooja@claymistry.in.
Frequently asked questions
Are handcrafted ceramic mugs microwave and dishwasher safe?
Yes. Every Claymistry mug is fired to full vitrification and finished with a stable, food-safe glaze, so it is safe in the microwave and on the top rack of a home dishwasher. The only exception is any mug with a metallic accent, which should be hand-washed.
Are your ceramic mugs non-toxic and food safe?
Yes. Every mug is made with a non-toxic and cadmium-free glaze, and the clay is bone-ash-free. If you want to check any ceramic mug at home, ours or another brand's, you can run a simple lemon-juice check over 24 hours and watch for any change in the glaze.
What size mug should I choose?
For daily filter coffee or tea, a 250 to 350 ml classic mug is the sweet spot. For cappuccinos, lattes, or a generous mug of coffee, go for a 400 to 450 ml latte mug. For Indian chai, a 150 to 200 ml chai cup suits a proper cutting better than a full-size mug.
Why does every mug look slightly different?
Because they are genuinely handcrafted. On reactive-glaze mugs especially, the glaze pools and shifts in the kiln, so each piece carries its own pattern. Two mugs from the same set are siblings, not identical twins, and that variation is the mark of real handmade work, not a flaw.
Tested for safety. Every glaze we use is tested for lead and cadmium release at an NABL-accredited laboratory. Lab report available on request.
