I STARTED CLAYMISTRY BECAUSE I COULDN'T FIND A PLATE I TRUSTED.

The story of how a question about glaze became a company.

The Origin

It started with a chai stall.

After the pandemic, I found myself noticing things I'd never paid attention to — like the ceramic cups at a roadside chai stall. Beautifully shaped. Hand-thrown. Thirty rupees each. I asked the vendor if the glaze was lead-free. He didn't know. Neither did I — and that bothered me.

So I started digging. What I found was a gap so wide I couldn't unsee it. On one side: roadside vendors and local shops selling beautiful ceramics at throwaway prices, with no way to know what was in the glaze. On the other: established brands selling similar-looking products at ten times the price, with 'premium' as the only justification.

Somewhere in the middle was a version of Indian ceramics that could be both — honestly made and honestly priced. That's what I set out to build.

I'm Pooja Meena. I studied at IIM Ahmedabad, spent years in the corporate world, and left it all to start a ceramics brand from scratch. Not because I knew pottery — but because I knew the question 'is this safe to eat from?' shouldn't be this hard to answer.

What we believe

You should know what’s in your tableware.

Lead-free glaze. No bone ash. No cadmium. Every piece is made with food safe glazes and tested for safety. This isn't a feature we added, it's the reason we exist.

Handcrafted doesn’t mean fragile

Our ceramics are made by India's legacy artisan communities — families who've been shaping clay for generations. Every piece is fired at high temperatures for strength. Microwave safe. Dishwasher safe. Built for your everyday table, not a display shelf.

Things made by hand deserve a name

We don't sell SKU #4829. We sell the Olive Story, the Crown Jewel, the Folklore. Every piece has a name because it was made by a person, not a machine. And named things are treated differently — they're kept, not replaced.

Made by hands that have

Done This For Generations

Claymistry ceramic illustration

We work with artisan communities across India whose families have been making ceramics for decades — in some cases, generations. For many of these communities, clay is not just a livelihood.

It's identity.

Every piece you buy from Claymistry was shaped, glazed, and fired by these hands. The slight variations in colour and texture aren't flaws — they're proof that a person made this, not a factory line.

Our job is to make sure their craft reaches you with the quality it deserves — food-safe, beautifully finished, and wrapped well enough to survive the journey.

We started with ceramics because that’s where the safety gap was widest. But the same problem — beautiful Indian craft, questionable materials, no brand you can trust — exists across homeware.

We’re building Claymistry to be the brand you reach for when you want something handcrafted, honestly made, and designed for daily life. Ceramics today. More categories tomorrow. Same standard, always.
