Handcrafted Ceramic Mugs & Cups
Handcrafted ceramic mugs, made in India
Mugs are personal. People develop opinions about them — the weight, the handle angle, how the rim feels on your lip, whether it can hold a filter coffee without going lukewarm before the second sip. That's why I make them in more shapes and glazes than any other category at Claymistry. And they're all lead-free ceramic mugs — no lead in the glaze, no bone ash in the clay — safe for your daily chai and coffee.
Every mug here is handcrafted from stoneware clay, fired between 1,100–1,200°C, and finished with a food-safe, lead-free, cadmium-free glaze. Every piece is bone-ash-free. The walls are thick enough to hold heat, and the handles are sized for an actual adult hand — not the narrow, pinched handles that come on most imported mugs.
What you'll find in this collection
- Classic coffee mugs (250–350 ml) for daily filter coffee and tea
- Tall latte mugs (400–450 ml) for cappuccinos and slow mornings
- Chai cups (150–200 ml) for the 4 pm cutting
- Espresso cups and cappuccino sets
- Reactive-glaze mugs, where each piece is one of a kind
- Gift sets of two and four in matching finishes
Everything is microwave and dishwasher safe. The glazes are designed to age well — they don't craze with repeated heating, and they don't stain from coffee or chai even after years of use.
A note on the reactive-glaze mugs: the glaze is mixed and applied by hand, then fired hot enough that the colours pool, pull, and settle differently on every piece. It's why no two Claymistry mugs look identical — and it's the reason this is the category most customers buy first and then come back for. If you want to understand why that variation happens (and why it isn't a defect), I wrote a full reactive glaze buyer's guide.
Worried about safety? Good — you should be, with any ceramic. Here's my honest guide to lead, cadmium, and dishwasher safety, including a home test you can run on any mug you already own. And if you're buying as a present, the ceramic gifting guide covers what actually works for weddings, housewarmings, and Diwali.

Frequently asked questions
Are handcrafted ceramic mugs microwave and dishwasher safe?
Yes. Every Claymistry mug is fired to full vitrification and finished with a stable, food-safe glaze, so it's safe in the microwave and on the top rack of a home dishwasher. The only exception is any mug with a metallic accent — hand-wash those. For the full dishwasher protocol, see our ceramic care guide.
Are your ceramic mugs lead-free and food safe?
Yes. Every mug uses a lead-free and cadmium-free glaze and is bone-ash-free, tested for lead and cadmium release. If you want to verify any ceramic mug at home — ours or another brand's — our ceramic safety guide walks through a 24-hour home test.
What size mug should I choose?
For daily filter coffee or tea, a 250–350 ml classic mug is the sweet spot. For cappuccinos, lattes, or a generous mug of coffee, go for a 400–450 ml latte mug. For Indian chai, a 150–200 ml chai cup suits a proper cutting better than a full-size mug.
Why does every mug look slightly different?
Because they're genuinely handcrafted. On reactive-glaze mugs especially, the glaze pools and shifts in the kiln, so each piece carries its own pattern. Two mugs from the same set will be siblings, not identical twins — that variation is the mark of real handmade work, not a flaw.
