The Grove Collection

Grove began with a colour that kept resurfacing in the studio.

Green above, earth below. The glaze sits sage and speckled on the outside of every piece, then turns to a warm brown gloss on the inside, the way a grove holds its canopy over the soil. Set a full table with it and the effect is quiet rather than decorative. It reads as something that grew, not something that was printed.

Grove is a reactive glaze. The colour is not painted on, and it is not identical from piece to piece. The glaze is mixed, applied to a stoneware body handmade by legacy artisans, and then the kiln decides the rest. Fired up to 1200 degrees Celsius, the minerals move, pool and speckle differently depending on where a piece sat and how thickly the glaze was laid. Two dinner plates from the same batch will not match exactly. That is the point of it, and it is worth knowing before you buy.

Every component is sold on its own as well as inside a set. That is deliberate. Ceramic breaks, and replacing one plate should not mean retiring a whole service.

Why do two Grove pieces look different from each other?

Because it is a reactive glaze. The colour develops in the kiln rather than being applied to the surface, so the speckling, the depth of the sage and the exact line where green meets brown vary from piece to piece. Within a set the pieces read as a family, not as copies. If you want perfect uniformity, a flat glaze will serve you better, and we make those too.

What is in each dinner set size?

Service for two is six pieces: two dinner plates, two quarter plates, two katoris. Service for four is twelve, the same three items in fours. The fourteen piece adds two serving bowls to the service for four. Service for six is twenty pieces: six dinner plates, six quarter plates, six katoris and two serving bowls.

Can I buy a single replacement plate?

Components are sold in sets of six, and the serving and pasta pieces in pairs. If you have broken one piece and need exactly one, contact us at contact@claymistry.in and we will sort it out rather than make you buy six.

Is Grove safe for daily use?

Will the colour fade in the dishwasher?

No. The colour is in the glaze, not on it, so it behaves the way the glaze does. It will not wear off with cutlery and it will not discolour from turmeric or tea.

How should I stack it?

The plates stack cleanly and the katoris nest. Put a cloth or a sheet of paper between plates if they are going to sit stacked for a long time, which is good practice for any glazed ceramic.
