Tested at an NABL-accredited laboratory

Every glaze we use is tested for lead and cadmium release per ISO 6486.

Report available on request.

Never a second thought.

Why glazes matter

Everything we make touches food. The glaze is the part of a bowl, mug, or plate that meets your hands, your kitchen counter, and what you eat off. It is also the part most likely to contain metal oxides, since colour and shine in ceramic glaze often come from mineral compounds that can include lead and cadmium in trace form.

That is why we treat glaze differently from the rest of the product. We do not assume a supplier's word is enough, and we do not assume a glaze is safe simply because it has long been used in ceramics. We test it.

What we test

  • Every glaze we use is tested for lead and cadmium release per ISO 6486, the standard method for measuring release from ceramic ware intended for food contact.
  • Testing takes place at an NABL-accredited laboratory.
  • Each glaze is re-tested annually.
  • Batch testing is available on demand for institutional orders.

Most ceramic glazes sold in India are never tested. Every glaze we use is tested at an NABL-accredited laboratory.

What you can ask any ceramics brand

Testing should be the honest standard for anything that touches food, not a point of difference. Before you buy ceramics anywhere, it is reasonable to ask:

  1. Has the glaze been tested for lead and cadmium release, or only the finished piece assumed safe?
  2. Is a test report available to look at, or only a general safety claim on the listing?
  3. Is testing repeated over time, or done once and never revisited?

How to request a report

Report available on request. Write to contact@claymistry.in with the product name, and we will share the relevant report.

Questions

What does "NABL-accredited laboratory" mean?

NABL is the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories, the body that accredits testing labs in India. A lab holding NABL accreditation has been assessed against a recognised technical standard for testing competence.

What exactly do you test for?

Each glaze we use is tested for lead and cadmium release per ISO 6486. Testing is repeated annually, and batch testing is available on request for institutional orders.

Can I see the test report?

Yes. Report available on request, write to contact@claymistry.in and we will share it.

Why test the glaze rather than just the finished piece?

Glaze is where food-contact risk concentrates, so we test each glaze we use rather than relying on a general claim about the finished product.

Is this testing unusual in the Indian ceramics market?

Most ceramic glazes sold in India are never tested. Every glaze we use is tested at an NABL-accredited laboratory, and we think that should be the standard, not the exception.
