Stoneware
Lead-free. Bone ash free. Fired at 1200°C. Built to last a lifetime.
What is Stoneware Pottery?
Stoneware is the material of choice for ceramics that need to work as hard as they look good. Fired at 1200°C, the clay body vitrifies completely — becoming dense, non-porous, chip-resistant, and built for the rigours of a real kitchen.
Claymistry stoneware is lead-free, bone ash free, and made entirely without animal-derived materials. Every piece is handcrafted in India by legacy artisans whose pottery tradition predates most modern kitchenware brands by several centuries.
These are pieces designed to be used every day, for decades.

The Craft
Thrown by hand. Fired at 1200°C. Ready for a lifetime.
Each piece begins as raw stoneware clay — dense, plastic, and worked by hand or wheel by our legacy artisans. Once formed and dried, the piece is bisque fired, glazed with our lead-free glaze formulas, and fired a second time at 1200°C in an electric kiln.
At that temperature, the clay and glaze fuse into a single, vitrified body. The surface becomes glass-like — smooth, non-porous, and completely sealed. No bacteria, no moisture absorption, no staining. Just good ceramic that works.
About Claymistry Stoneware
-
Stoneware is a type of ceramic fired at high temperatures — typically between 1200°C and 1300°C. This high-fire process vitrifies the clay body, making it dense, non-porous, and significantly more durable than earthenware or terracotta. The result is a heavy, chip-resistant piece that holds heat well and lasts for years of daily use.
-
Yes, completely. Every piece in our stoneware collection is made with 100% lead-free glazes. We do not use lead, cadmium or any other heavy metal in our glaze formulas. All pieces are food safe and certified for everyday use with food and beverages.
-
Traditional bone china uses calcined animal bone ash as a key ingredient to achieve its translucency and whiteness. Our stoneware contains no animal-derived materials whatsoever — no bone ash at any stage of production. It is entirely plant- and mineral-based.
-
Firing at 1200°C means the clay body reaches full vitrification — the ceramic particles fuse completely, leaving no pores for moisture or bacteria to enter. Lower-fired ceramics (earthenware, terracotta) remain slightly porous. Stoneware fired at 1200°C is genuinely non-porous, making it more hygienic, more durable, and better at retaining heat.
-
All our stoneware is handcrafted in India by legacy artisans whose craft traditions stretch back to the Mughal era. They bring generations of pottery knowledge to every piece.

Yes. The high-fire, non-porous nature of stoneware makes it perfectly suited for both the microwave and dishwasher. We recommend the top rack for dishwasher use to preserve the glaze finish over time.
