The colour is not painted on, and it is not identical from piece to piece. The glaze is mixed, applied to a stoneware body handmade by legacy artisans, and then the kiln decides the rest. Fired up to 1200 degrees Celsius, the minerals move, pool and speckle differently depending on where a piece sat and how thickly the glaze was laid. Two dinner plates from the same batch will not match exactly.
